Snail Saving Whale Brooch

A collection about children's literature will never be complete without paying homage to one of the greatest literary geniuses of modern times. JD is a god in my eyes, from both a teacher and a parent's view point. From the Gruffalo to the Giant, the Witch and her overloaded broom, and even the muted ladybird. She has created the most magical world for our children, with rhythm, patter and content that engages and delights.

I would never dream of stepping on the toes of such a great, nor would I want to replicate such beautiful illustrations like AS's. But I have always wanted to recreate my own imagined version of my favourite moment from my personal favourite book.

This brooch is of a small board (as black as soot), some swirling silvery writing, and a plea from a tiny snail. Who could refuse a request like that?
