Snail Saving Whale Earrings

A collection about children's literature will never be complete without paying homage to one of the greatest literary geniuses of modern times. JD is a god in my eyes, from both a teacher and a parent's view point. From the Gruffalo to the Giant, the Witch and her overloaded broom, and even the muted ladybird. She has created the most magical world for our children, with rhythm, patter and content that engages and delights.

I would never dream of stepping on the toes of such a great, nor would I want to replicate such beautiful illustrations like AS's. But I have always wanted to recreate my own imagined version of my favourite moment from my personal favourite book.

When I designed the brooch, I couldn't go past the cute snail sitting atop the blackboard. But in brooch form, he was just a bit too small. So I just had to make a larger earring version.
